Description

The most iconic mountain in South America, Ausangate, and its seven stunning lagoons, offers one of the most breathtaking hikes you’ll ever experience.
This full-day trek takes you through a landscape of turquoise lagoons, towering snow-capped peaks, and ends with a soothing soak in natural hot springs, all while enjoying incredible views of the mountains and witnessing the traditional daily life of the Pacchanta community. It’s an unforgettable adventure that combines natural beauty, cultural immersion, and relaxation in one of the most beautiful and remote corners of Peru.

Day 1Cusco - Tinke - Pacchanta - Ausangate - Cusco

At 4 AM, we’ll pick you up from your accommodation and head out to Ausangate. Our first stop will be in Tinke for a quick break to use the restrooms and grab any last-minute supplies you might need. Afterward, we’ll continue for another 45 minutes until we reach Pacchanta, where we’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast. From this point, we’ll begin our journey, either on foot or horseback, toward the stunning lakes of Ausangate.

Our trek will last approximately five hours, during which we’ll visit several beautiful lakes: Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, and Q’omercocha. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to admire the impressive Ausangate mountain (6,834 m / 22,421 ft) and other breathtaking peaks, including Mariposa (5,842 m / 19,167 ft), Jampa (5,500 m / 18,045 ft), Pucapunta (5,740 m / 18,832 ft), Caracol (5,625 m / 18,455 ft), and Tinke (5,300 m / 17,388 ft), as well as the entire Qayangate range. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as birds, alpacas, llamas, and, if we’re lucky, the majestic Andean condor.

After completing the circuit, we’ll return to Pacchanta to relax in the rejuvenating hot springs of Ausangate—perfect for soothing sore muscles after a long day of hiking. Following our soak, we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch before making our way back to Cusco, arriving around 7 PM.

Tour Details

The “Ausangate 7 Lagoons” tour takes place at heights ranging from 15,910 feet (4,850 meters) to 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) above sea level. Therefore, it is very important that you are well acclimatized to the altitude BEFORE undertaking the trek. We recommend spending at least 5 days in Cusco or any city with a minimum altitude of 9,840 feet (3,000 meters) before starting the Ausangate walk. We also recommend consulting your doctor about any allergies that may prevent you from taking any relavent medications (such altitude sickness pills).
