Every visitor entering the Colca Valley and Canyon region must purchase the official Boleto Turístico del Colca (BTC), managed by the local tourism authority, AUTOCOLCA. Whether you are taking a scenic bus excursion to Cruz del Cóndor or trekking 1,200 vertical meters down into Sangalle Oasis, this ticket is legally mandatory.
The entrance fee is structured according to nationality and residency categories:
| Visitor Category | Official Fee (PEN) | Approximate USD | Required Documentation |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Non-South American | 70 PEN | ~$19 USD | Original Foreign Passport |
| South American Citizens (CAN / Mercosur) | 40 PEN | ~$11 USD | National ID / Passport (Colombia, Chile, Brazil, etc.) |
| Peruvian Citizens & Residents | 20 PEN | ~$5.50 USD | DNI or Carné de Extranjería |
| Students (Under 27 with University ID) | 20 PEN (National) / Discounted | Variable | Physical Student Card + Passport |
Critical Payment Rule: AUTOCOLCA booths operate on a strict cash-only basis in Peruvian Soles (PEN). Card readers do not function reliably due to intermittent mountain cellular coverage. Do not rely on credit cards or US Dollars at road control stations.
The Boleto Turístico is valid for 7 consecutive calendar days from the date of purchase. It covers:
Inspectors board tourist vans at the entrance checkpoint near Chivay or at the town square in Cabanaconde. Keep the physical paper ticket inside your passport or plastic sleeve at all times, as inspectors verify tickets multiple times throughout your journey.
The tourist ticket does not cover independent community services:
Journey through the world’s deepest canyon, soaring Andean condors, Lake Titicaca reed islands, and high-mountain Inca citadels on our signature 12-day Southern Route.
